Culturally Sensitive Health Champion
What this role is
The Culturally Sensitive Health Champion supports WO Consultancy's community health engagement work. They are trained to use blood pressure monitors and basic health screening tools, and to share health messages in a way that is culturally informed, accessible, and grounded in community trust. Ideal for anyone interested in public health, the NHS, or community health careers.
Who we're looking for
Genuine interest in health, public health, or community wellbeing. Cultural awareness — ideally with lived experience of communities that face barriers accessing health services. Calm, trustworthy, able to have sensitive conversations. No medical qualifications required — full training provided.
What you'll do
Deliver basic health checks at job clubs and events — blood pressure monitoring, basic health readings · Share health messages in accessible, culturally appropriate language · Support embedded health sessions within job clubs (quarterly model) · Assist at Community Connect events — Health Zone · Signpost community members to health services, GPs, and support organisations · Contribute to WO's Health Champions model — trained residents sharing messages peer-to-peer
Where you'll volunteer
WO job clubs across Enfield and Finsbury Park, and at community events including Community Connect. Some outreach into community venues — mosques, social clubs, estates — where WO has established relationships.
Training provided
Health Champion training programme: blood pressure monitoring (hands-on), basic health screening tools, sharing health messages clearly and confidently, cultural competence in health engagement, safeguarding and consent, signposting and referral pathways. Grounded in Williamz Omope's background in the Enfield Council Public Health team.
